There’s lots of significance to being physically active and having a strong body but people associate being active with exercise, playing sports and lifting weights but you can also pair it with being active in the community. Being physically active correlates with being socially active, they go hand in hand.
Things such as going grocery shopping, taking public transportation, going to sports games, going out to eat, volunteering, having a job, hanging with friends are all still being active and are extremely healthy for an individual. This gives them opportunities to be involved with the community and society.
There’s plenty of other benefits associated with being socially active, such as having confidence in yourself, your abilities and your actions, being comfortable with being outside and interacting with others, it also helps to grow a person's self confidence which now goes along with mental health.
There are supports, activities and day programs in most communities one can join such as Kidsability, live @ learn which are both day programs that help provide life skills as well as communication skills for those with disabilities. There’s also other day programs and supports such as Kidsability, Community Living, CMHA (Canadian Mental Health Association) which help with physical health, communication, mental health and peer support.
